46  pfSense English Support / General Questions / Re: Pfsense WAN pppoe isp account desapeard on: April 02, 2008, 07:03:05 pm
This install e fresh i only uploaded the config from 1.01
4 now i'll just leave it has it is i just putted  the user and pass for my ISP back,if i get this again i'll send you the system log of my syslog server .
I had this before once i changed my network cards ,but this time i did do that,i was changing to an Intel dual ethernet 32 bit pci card.

I'll stay alert .
There is always the possibility of some sort of problem with the hardware (specially the Nics they are used -ebay)
for some reason have the felling Snort has something to do with it this time i never seen snort leaving so little memory on my system.

I am just being lazy  Tongue to avoid all the work with the rules, traffic shaping, dhcp, captive portal,etc... but if it continuous ill have to put my self to work and create the config from scratch.

Edit: i did some more testing trying to get the same error but without success.
47  pfSense English Support / General Questions / Re: Why should I choose pfsense over an appliance. Example: Edimax BR-6624 on: April 02, 2008, 01:45:33 pm
I changed a simple home router (speedtouch) to pfsense just because i wanted lower ping on gaming and i did get it from 40~50 to 20~30 ms.
I a have one box runnig 24/7/365 (had a 1.0.1 version with 117 days of uptime) i am using the new release now.
Its more flexible and if the hardware fails you can have it running in less than an hour again with the same config

49  pfSense English Support / PPPoE Server / Re: PPPOe Droping on wireless network on: April 01, 2008, 07:18:41 pm
I think there should be no problem for reconnecting. In fact, if you lower that timer and the client doesn't cause traffic for 30 seconds (in case you lower this one) it will drop the line. Don't think you want that. At least for PPTP (which is similiar to PPPoE as it uses the same deamon) I can connect right after the connection failed and it will drop the previous inactive session.
Thats better because the problem is until it reaches the 3 min the same user will not be able to login .
Thanks for the hint i'll try PPTP
50  pfSense English Support / PPPoE Server / PPPOe Droping on wireless network on: April 01, 2008, 01:35:51 pm
I have this setup

Internet---WAN/PFsense/Lan----Access Point )))((((( wifi client

Pfsense is running PPPoe server on the LAN side and working but if a wireless client disconnect and reconnect the PPPoe connection will be lost and will not reconnect for a while .
Is it possible to shorten this time to 15 sec or 30 sec to avoid a longer wait ?
This is usefull because wireless connections can drop very often .
I looked around and found this contained on /etc/ppp/ppp.conf

Code:
set timeout 180                        # 3 minute idle timer (the default)

Is this the value to change ?
Thanks in advanced

51  pfSense English Support / Wireless / Re: 2x wifi on one router to maximize throughput - how to? on: March 31, 2008, 06:14:42 pm
There is a user from this forum that has 2 boxes running @5 ghz (cm9) cards 700 m away he gets about 6 Megabytes/sec.
I have seen a benchmark with 2 ALIX 3C1 with Staros @ 5ghz(cm9) doing 9.4 Megabytes/sec (Atheros super A) 7km away.
If your looking 4 speed use 5ghz cards to do the backbone .
@ 2.4 ghz like the hoda said you get about 25 mbits (~3.5 Megabytes/sec)

It will work fine once the pkg_config.xml is sync'ed.

I uploaded the files and made the changes to the pkg_config.xml file in the cvs but it did not sync to the web server. Sullrich if you have the time could you look into this. I won't have access to a computer this week.

To Others:
The issue is not a package compatibility with 1.2. Like I stated above the port package was removed from the FreeBSD server and thus it can't install.

Please don't send me email asking how to install NUT or why it does not work. It will work fine once the pkg_config.xml is sync'ed.
Thanks
