What the best way to upgrade the config file?
I have a version 1.9 config file and wanted to upgrade it version 2.2 or current version.

I have tried the restore all config option in the webgui on live-cd v0.88 and v0.90, but both versions immediately reboots the box everytime.

Update: v0.86 live-cd also exhibit this behavior.

It should happen automatically.

The problem is how do I save the upgraded config file *before* the reboot?  This is probably ok for people who are using flash or harddrives, but for those using live-cd, are we not able to upgrade?

Is there a way to upgrade the config manually?

Did I miss something? Do we reboot after restoring a config? I think the changes are applied on the fly, so get yourself a new IP if it has changed and you should be able to access it again (without reboot). We tried to remove the need to reboot everywhere.

I just did an restore on v0.86 using the initial config it just saved, and yes I can confirm that "The configuration has been restored. The firewall is now rebooting."  So I guess it doesn't have anything to do with upgrading the config, but rather rebooting was somehow re-enabled?

Are you sure it actually IS rebooting? maybe we just have a cosmetic bug in the text 
It's the same with running the initial wizard. We don't reboot but assign all settings on the fly (needs some time depending on the platform you are runnung).

From what I tested so far, 0.90, 0.88, and 0.86 all *actually* reboots the box after a config restore.  It is not a cosmetic bug.

ok, I really mised something here. But there is a solution to that. In the shellmenu you find an option to define where to store the config (removable media). Define where it should be stored. If you then restore the config.xml in the webgui it will write it to that location, reboot and load the settings from there then.

Same here.  I also wanted to mentioned that the removable media whether it be floppy or usb key, must be FAT-16 formated in order for pfsense to detect it and provide you with that option.

ok, i have a removeable media and live-cd pfsense 0.94.4 detects it.
I choose option 98 to change the location of config.xml.   Then I did a restore on the webgui.
The firewall box reboots, but it doesn't seem to pick up the config.xml.
Went to shell, the cf mount was empty.
What gives?
