Avahi still on system after removal

I am running 2.0.1 and kept getting avahi-daemon[28884]: Invalid query packet. Decided to remove the package, so I could research the issue. However it is still running, even after a reboot.
Tried reinstalling and then removing.
Tried disabling then removing.
Tried to kill it but can't get access to 'su'.
Noticed somebody else had the issue with squid.
