I have a MediaPortal TV-server at home and I would like to be able to connect via VPN and use the server.

I have set up a OpenVPN-server in pfsense and I have gotten SMB working, but it seems I'm not able to connect to the TV-server over the VPN.

Anyone who might know what I need to do to get this to work?

What do you mean with "TV-Server" ? Ist this a (windows) computer ? Check the firewall for SMB access from other subnets.
Can you connect to the server with RDP and/or ping the server ?

Did you try to stream the video with VLC ? VLC can compress the data if your VPN is not so fast. Streaming could be done with a streming protocol.

A server with a couple of TV-receivers in it, that streams live-TV over the network.
I have no problem connecting with SMB, RDP or pinging the server, just that the streaming doesn't work, It works locally but not with any of the VPN-clients.

The streams are probably multicast - check the IGMP Proxy on pfsense to stream multicast over different networks.

Yes this seems to be the thing.

However I not a very advanced networker.....  (first time with pfsense....)

So I'm now kindly asking if anyone could help me out setting this up...?

The TV-server is on the subnet 192.168.8.0 and the connecting clients is on 192.168.6.0
In my pfsense computer there is only two interfaces, LAN and WAN.

I didn't use IGMP so far so I am no expert.

Probably you need to assign your OpenVPN as an Interface to be able to select it in the IGMP Proxy.
The Upstream interface is the Interface on which your TV-Server is, als Network you select the IP on which the TV-Server is streaming. This is probably a multicast IP.

As download server you chose the OpenVPN Network.

Perhaps someone else can help more. Or the forum search

Started messing around a little with this, but ended up with a nonworking VPN-server, could connect but no access at all to my LAN....

When you assign OpenVPN as an interface there will be an additional tab on firewall rules where you need to allow traffic.
Not sure if you then need to add static routes for this OpenVPN interface - what in general is done by the OpenVPN server.

EDIT: I tried adding a rule to the new tab that looked exactly like the one on the OpenVPN-tab, but as soon as I assign an interface to the OpenVPN (I don't even know what this actually does...)
I cannot get any access to my LAN.

This is way above my level of knowledge about computer networking, I've been looking at the rules and I frankly just don't understand how it works.
Plus I couldn't find something in the menus about "routes"....

I was thinking it worked just like an extension of your LAN, I was so wrong.

I've been searching the forums for someone with a similar problem where I could find some help, but I couldn'r really find something....

EDIT2: Found where you could add routes but it only looks like they apply to the WAN...

I actually got it working, but not as well as I want it I think...

I skipped that part about assigning the VPN-server to a interface, and just configured the IGMP like this:

LAN    upstream    192.168.8.0/24, 192.168.6.0/24    
WAN    downstream    192.168.8.0/24, 192.168.6.0/24    

But somehow I feel this might not be the most efficient way to do it...

Plus the video got very choppy (need some tuning here of some kind.....) and that should be an issue of speed or processing power (at the moment I have two 100/100 connections at home and my pfsense-computer is an E6600 @ 2.4GHz)

Anyone who might know where to go from here??
