We would be willing to pay 100 dollars for you to introduce in "Settings" an option to place the GUI in Spanish. 
 
It is easy. You only have to put variable that they take the data of a text file with the equivalent of assignment of variables in Spanish. 
 
We would be willing to translate to the Spanish language all the new modifications of the text file with variables, with each new version. 
 
It would be it something very interesting since the Spanish language is from all over the world the second more important language, after English. Pfsense would become a firewall with international entrance. 
 
What do you say of this proposal?

Actually that is not that simple as it appears to be. You have to touch EVERY single page and introduce a new system for replacing all the different blurbs and have things like fontattributes, links, mouseover hints  and so on still working in multi languages. At the same time it makes the code more unreadable. I think none of the devs think that diving in this kind of work makes sense in the current state the project is in and if it makes sense at all is another topic to discuss (lots of high priced commercial devices don't offer this as well). Sure, offering money for a feature could change the point of view a bit but we are talking about A LOT of work here.

The easiest way to do this would also be the hardest to template out everything in a way which would look for separate config files for each language. Granted it's a real pain and a lot of work to do.

I think that remove all the text from the page to make it loaded from an external file, is not so good during the develpment.
My idea is to leave the english text and add a tag to identify that:

And, if the language is different from english pars the text to replace the text between the tag.

I know that this is not the best way to do multilanguage interface, but this is the best I can think to do that ad leave easy the development.

What needs to happen is for us to settle down with a template system with gettext support. 

Then this is possible but by no means is it easy work.

I don't believe that it is so difficult. I am only speaking of having a webGUI in Spanish. Only that. 
 
We have collaborated in other translations to Spanish of other projects. It is not so difficult. I place you a localization example to Spanish carried out by us: http://www.insidepro.com 
 
It is based it on placing texts like variables. 
 
Then, a called file exists SPANISH.LNG that contains the equivalent of each variable in Spanish. Of course, there is a called file ENGLISH.LNG with all the texts in English. And so forth. 
 
I am willing to pay 200 dollars for this work. 
 
I believe that Pfsense in several languages would be fantastic, and the best firewall in the whole market. With this system, you would find people that wanted to translate to their language the texts. It is possible that in little time you were able to have Pfsense in 10 or more languages. Something incredible. 
 
It is more complicated for the development, but Pfsense it will win an international prestige that other commercial firewalls doesn't have.

Finally we have taken charge the adaptation from the code to Fernando Lemos, of Netfiler.com.br so that Pfsense can be in Spanish, and in any other language. 
 
Fernando will charge the 600 dollars that we offered for this work.

Please note that this situation has changed.

Freekazoide has done all the heavy hitting and implemented all the gettext() changes required.  He is now translating to Portugese.

With that said, we need volunteers for other languages.   Who wants to help??    Spanish and German are accounted for so far.
