DHCP and DNS / DNS randomly returns switch ip as client ip ??
« on: March 04, 2018, 11:32:12 am »

have the following strange behaviour after update from 2.3.3 to 2.4.2-p1 . PFsense DHCP Server is serving IP with DNS Resolver enabled.

Linux environment (Clients and Server).
Sometimes when i try to ping a client name from a random server, pfsense DNS Resolver returns the IP of my core switche instead of client IP.  For me this seems to appear randomly. DHCP Lease in PFsense shows right ip. After rebooting client, DNS for this client works again.

Had no issue before update to 2.4.2-p1 .. Does someone have an idea whats wrong here ?

2.4 Development Snapshots / update to 2.4.2 VLANS missing ?
« on: February 20, 2018, 06:14:03 am »

i run a CARP / PFSYNC Failover configuration with two 2.3.3-p1 versions, everything fine.

Now i want to update to 2.4 and put second node to maintenance and update it.

After update i see that my VLANs and VLAN Firewallrules are not here anymore.
Any known issue regarding VLANs lost after update from 2.3 to 2.4 ?

DHCP and DNS / Hostname empty and not resolvable
« on: May 12, 2017, 04:10:56 pm »

running pfsense 2.3.3-p1 with one dhcp on LAN interface.
I've many clients with exact same image (ubuntu) and often i see empty hostname fields on dhcp leases page.
Also this hosts are not resolvable by other clients. For me this seems to be random.

Is there any known issue ?

DHCP and DNS / resolv hots from second PFSense box ?
« on: October 26, 2016, 07:47:47 am »
Hey guys,

i've trouble getting the following up and running.

I've two pfsense boxes connected with site to site openvpn.
Site A serveing DHCP to clients
Site B serveing DHCP to clients

Both pfsense boxes useing same internal domain.

Clients can connet to each other useing IPs so VPN is fine
Clients can resolv hostnames of hosts in there Site.

Client in site A cannot resolve hostname of Client in site B and vice versa.

I'm useing DNS Forwarder on both boxes.. Access Lists is set to allow with ip from other site.

Not sure how to forward DNS requests from one site to other before asking public DNS ?
Maybe some can help me here.

Hardware / D-Link DWM-157 USB Stock not recognized
« on: March 06, 2016, 05:21:41 pm »

i bought  an D-Link DWM-157 HSPA+ stick because it is listed here as known working stick .
Unfortunately pfsense 2.2.6 und 2.3 beta don't recognize the stick / modem.

First because of the normal problem that the stick was mounted as CD0
I compared the usb idProduct with working windows machine:

Windows: 0x7d0e -> Modem Mode
pfsense usbconfig: 0xa407 -> CD Mode

so i run:
Code: [Select]
camcontrol eject cd0
and usbconfig -d 1.2 dump_device_desc returns:

Code: [Select]
  bLength = 0x0012
  bDescriptorType = 0x0001
  bcdUSB = 0x0200
  bDeviceClass = 0x00ef  <Miscellaneous device>
  bDeviceSubClass = 0x0002
  bDeviceProtocol = 0x0001
  bMaxPacketSize0 = 0x0040
  idVendor = 0x2001
 idProduct = 0x7d0e
  bcdDevice = 0x0300
  iManufacturer = 0x0009  <D-Link,Inc  >
  iProduct = 0x000a  <D-Link DWM-157>
  iSerialNumber = 0x0000  <no string>
  bNumConfigurations = 0x0001

looks good. Stick seems to be in right mode.
But dmesg output simply presents now a da1 device instead of u3g modems:

Code: [Select]
(cd0:umass-sim1:1:0:0): Periph destroyed
ugen1.2: <D-Link,Inc> at usbus1
umass1: <Mass Storage > on usbus1
da1 at umass-sim1 bus 1 scbus7 target 0 lun 0
da1: <HSPA USB SCSI CD-ROM 6225> Removable Direct Access SCSI device
da1: 40.000MB/s transfers
da1: Attempt to query device size failed: ILLEGAL REQUEST, Invalid field in CDB
da1: quirks=0x2<NO_6_BYTE>

#camcontrol devlist
Code: [Select]
<SATA SSD S9FM02.2>                at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (ada0,pass0)
<Multiple Card  Reader 1.00>       at scbus6 target 0 lun 0 (pass1,da0)
<HSPA USB SCSI CD-ROM 6225>        at scbus7 target 0 lun 0 (da1,pass2)

maybe you guys have some input for ?
