Fellow Member:

Thanks for the assistance. The steps you outlined worked perfectly. The single user boot was the key.

Hardware / Trim Assistance
« on: January 24, 2018, 11:33:18 am »
Fellow members:

I have Pfsense 2.4.2_1 running with a Samsung 850 Pro (256Gb). I have tried follow the commands and process for turning on Trim but have not been successful.

I obtained the SSD drive information as the following:

/dev/gptid/45a16a44-0122-11e8-a969-001b218d29b8   /

What sequence of commands is required to turn on Trim.

I typed tunefs -p / at the command prompt and the system indicates Trim is disabled.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank You

Glad you have installed the new Intel driver for Windows 10. I have tried but the MS operating system (Windows 10) will not allow installation. What was your configuration procedure. I would also like to use Window 10 with vlans.

Thanks for the assistance

Thank you for the update. I was given this NIC and thought I would investigate the situation. I have another operating Intel NIC in production but might try the Intel Pro 100 / VT and see if it will operate in that environment.

Are these any definitive plans or time table for implementing fd_codel for traffic shaping in Pfsense 2.4 or later versions?

I have a Western Digital Drive 250 GB (10K) installed in the Pfsense system. It passes the  smart drive test but makes a strange squeaking sound even when the system has minimal load. Must be the drive. Also hear a low muffled grinding sound at times. Any one ever had this issue?
