AT&T FTTH with pfSense?
« on: September 14, 2017, 02:05:55 am »
earlier this week i asked about FiOS with pfSense and it sounds like it pretty much works so long as they provision ethernet instead of MoCA.

I found out that my service will actually be through AT&T if I opt for Fiber.

The plan is AT&T Internet 100. It's 100/100 FTTH @ $60/mo first 12mo then $70/mo thereafter. $50 Visa card promo.

Can I bypass their "wi-fi gateway" crap similarly to Verizon FiOS or will I be stuck using it?

I'm already on the fence about it with 75/10 cable being offered at $40/mo, if I have to use their hardware I won't do it.

Any feedback from those who have experience with AT&T Fiber?

I don't have AT&T service, and it's not even available in my area, but from posts I've seen on other forums (in particular DSLReports) I think you must use the AT&T provided device as it does the authentication for you port/account.  There are some posts on DSLReports and elsewhere on ways to implement a sort of bridge mode IP-passthrough with the AT&T device so that you can then use pfSense.

Take a look at the posts here:  https://www.dslreports.com/forum/uverse
