PfSense repeatedly crashing :(
« on: November 16, 2017, 12:25:27 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm getting repeated crashes on my PfSense box and it's starting to drive me nuts, even though most of the time the machine just reboots itself.

Here's the crash dump, hoping someone can decipher what everything means : https://ybin.me/p/361524aff702bf46#p7JzpQfLEN/AccSLqzHrDcPyTh1mtwrBoTx2MHQ4JZc=

I've done what I could in terms of fsck but nothing seems to be fixing these crashes...

Here's the specs (only used for home):
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz
RAM : 2GB
NIC : Intel Dual 1GBPS
HDD : 140GB

Thanks in advance!

according to your log, you have 2 intel and 1 realtek network adapter.

try adding
Code: [Select]
kern.cam.boot_delay=10000
kern.ipc.nmbclusters=1000000
legal.intel_ipw.license_ack=1
legal.intel_iwi.license_ack=1
hw.re.enable_msix=0
hw.em.enable_msix=0
hw.pci.enable_msix=0
and if that does not help, also add
Code: [Select]
net.inet.tcp.tso=0
hw.em.fc_setting=0
hw.re.fc_setting=0

Hi Birke, many thanks for your reply!

I'll give those settings a try, I guess I just add it to the loader.conf?

PS: The realtek adapter is just a standard one that's on the motherboard. Not currently using it, however I may use it in the future.

Hi,

Unfortunately the problem seems to still occur. Although a lot less, I noticed something though
Code: [Select]
em1: <Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection 7.6.1-k> port 0xe000-0xe01f mem 0xff840000-0xff85ffff,0xff820000-0xff83ffff irq 17 at device 0.1 on pci1
em1: Using an MSI interrupt
em1: Ethernet address: 00:1b:78:5c:4f:99
em1: netmap queues/slots: TX 1/1024, RX 1/1024
vgapci0: <VGA-compatible display> port 0xf140-0xf147 mem 0xff900000-0xff97ffff,0xd0000000-0xdfffffff,0xff600000-0xff6fffff irq 16 at device 2.0 on pci0
agp0: <Intel G33 SVGA controller> on vgapci0
agp0: aperture size is 256M, detected 7164k stolen memory
vgapci0: Boot video device
pcib2: <ACPI PCI-PCI bridge> irq 16 at device 28.0 on pci0
pcib2: [GIANT-LOCKED]
pcib3: <ACPI PCI-PCI bridge> irq 17 at device 28.1 on pci0
pcib3: [GIANT-LOCKED]
pci2: <ACPI PCI bus> on pcib3
re0: <RealTek 8168/8111 B/C/CP/D/DP/E/F/G PCIe Gigabit Ethernet> port 0xd000-0xd0ff mem 0xff720000-0xff720fff irq 17 at device 0.0 on pci2

Both NIC's look like they've got IRQ 17? Could this be it?
