pfSense crashes while heavy downloading
« on: January 29, 2018, 02:48:23 pm »
Hello, I have problem with my pfsense PC, it crashes when I download something bigger, like torrents for a long time. Iam using motherboard ASROCK Q1900M, with 8GB RAM. I can only reboot pfsense and after that, it works again until another crash. When I check the logs, its spammed with  "arpresolve: can't allocate llinfo for "IP" on re1"

and

re1 is my WAN
I have realtek cards for both WAN and LAN. I already tried to set "Speed and Duplex" in WAN Interface to "100baseTX full-duplex" and checked "Disable hardware checksum offload" as few posts with similar problems suggested.

Ive heard something about intel network cards works better than realtek ? Or can I do something with realtek drivers to make it work better ?

My pfSnse version is 2.4.2

Also, I have 2 other questions -
1. can I set my power button to reboot ? I want it to be just 1 click to reboot it, so that my roommates have it easier to reboot it when Iam not at home. (I always have to tell them to push the button, wait a minute and push it again)
2. can I set, that when the crash occurs, pfsense reboots on itself ? that would be good enough if there isnt any solution to prevent crashing

Thanks for the response.

ditching the realtek is your best bet

what have you entered in your /boot/loader.conf and /boot/loader.conf.local?
do you use the realtek shipped with pfsense or a newer one?

you should try the tip with the new driver on this post: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=103841.msg766227#msg766227
