« on: January 01, 2015, 06:44:33 pm »

How much time did you spend investigating the options? 0 secs?

Ah, thanks for the answer, but a less snide remark would be nice...

OpenVPN has a server and a client tab, IPSec is more or less symmetric, so I would have expected to find client setup somewhere in the VPN section, not in the NIC configuration section.

Last time I did anything of significance in the interface section when I switched to pfSense a few years ago from a ZyWall, after all, the physical connectivity doesn't change for me, so I basically never have a reason to dig around there.

Might be useful to have client tabs for PPTP and L2TP which have a short text and a link to the proper section...

The PPTP "WAN" type is meant as a client for ISPs which use PPTP as a transport. It isn't meant to connect to a remote PPTP VPN in the way that OpenVPN or IPsec would.

Please indicate whether the OP answer has been given as I have the same question and as a pfsense NOOB would appreciate some assistance in configuring the pfsense box as a PPTP client.

Regards

The answer was given by me above. pfSense cannot act as a PPTP VPN client. It can only connect to a PPTP ISP link using that function.

It is beyond time to stop using PPTP for VPN purposes. Move on to something more secure. Locking the thread.
