Official pfSense Hardware / Re: SG series 1U & HA appliances
« on: December 17, 2017, 05:33:08 pm »
The HA pair does not require two support contracts. It is offered as such for convenience. Many customers like to purchase the hardware bundle and the support bundle as (1) they know both units are supported and (2) they don't have to navigate to several different places in the store to add an additional support subscription.

Also, some companies require that all units be under some kind of support agreement at all times. This solves that problem as well.

Further, Netgate Global Support applies on a per-unit basis. Each unit is treated as a separate firewall because that's what it is.

If someone purchasing the HA pair doesn't want support, they can elect Community Support at the point of sale.  If they'd like two units and only want support on one, then they can select those items (two firewalls, one support subscription) on an individual basis in the store.

Hardware / Re: SG-1000 problems. Will not work. Brand new unit.
« on: March 31, 2017, 08:54:11 am »
The reason for the problem (file corruption) was communicated in the ticket I opened for you as soon as you reported the problem.  It appears you have removed power before properly shutting it down. The reason that it runs 2.4-BETA has also been explained.

Continue to work with my team to resolve the issue.

If you know what Slack is, you know that it's pretty awesome way of communicating. Netgate has set up a public pfSense channel on the Slack platform. Right now, it's by invitation only. This will serve as an additional community resource in the same spirit as reddit, the official pfSense forum, IRC, etc.

If you are a Slack user and a customer/fan of our products and would like access to the channel, please send your e-mail address to: slack-request@netgate.com

You will be sent an invitation within 24 hours.

General Questions / Production Support At Netgate! Position Now Open!
« on: October 12, 2016, 03:56:02 pm »
Still looking for one more qualified person to fill out my team! Some exciting things are happening here and we'll need some people to support pfSense and future products. Job description is here:

http://www.netgate.com/company/careers/production-support-analyst.html

Please follow the instructions on submitting the resume if you believe you are qualified.

The successful candidate will work 5am - 5pm CDT or 10am - 10pm CDT, rotating every other week between three days and 4 days.
Example:

Week 1, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Week 2: Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Week 3: See week 1
Week 4: See week 2

What that means to you:  A total of 7 days off every two weeks, 3-day or 4-day weekend every week, work with the best team of support engineers I've ever had the privilege of being associated with. You will need to be a good team fit as much as having the right skill set.

This can be a remote position for the right candidate!

I look forward to talking to you!

Hi, Paul,

I sent you an e-mail this morning asking you to detail the concerns you have. I have yet to receive a response. Also, I looked at the tickets/chat session you had, and I saw nothing that jumped out at me that would indicate a problem. If you'd like to discuss further, or of you'd like to specifically outline the issues you had, you can reply to the ticket. It's in my queue.

P.S. Jim's last name is "Pingle", and "PFsense" is not pfSense.

Thanks.

One-hour of orientation on internal processes and he acts and performs like he's worked here for years. (In a way, perhaps he has). We're happy to be able to find Steve and bring him into the fold. It's already paying off.

This should serve as notice that if you learn the product and demonstrate the skills needed to help others, this could be you!   :)

We're not getting any smaller as an organization and will need qualified people in the future.

General Discussion / Re: Hangouts?
« on: January 28, 2015, 05:04:14 pm »
Newsletters get sent out monthly ...

We are generating them and sending them out using Campayn. That started right after the October newsletter. I see the reports on each mail we send out and any problems that might exist are not obvious. There is a VERY high number of views on each one.

First, you should whitelist 'newsletters@pfsense.org' - You would not have known that if you had never received it.

Going forward, perhaps I'll create them online and share the URL, sending it to Gold subscribers the old way. IN the meantime, if you missed the last few, my apologies and thanks for pointing it out. Here ya go!

--- and the best way to resolve this is just to email me.  sdavis @ (you know the domain name)  cmb and jimp are consumed with other important tasks, as you might imagine.  Thanks again for pointing this out.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Thoughts on the new "Gold" menu in 2.1.5
« on: August 29, 2014, 03:35:47 pm »
It does. This is all about money making and the distribution and user base is now a size that some believe will carry the gold pot into the bank.

What they dont realize is that people are leaving and its not more than a fork away from beeing run over by people that wants to keep it OS andf transparent...

And I suppose you have quantifiable metrics to show "people are leaving" as opposed to anecdotal feelings that the world is coming to an end because a change was made that you don't agree with?

You're looking at the picture that's 6" in front of you. What you don't see is that in time, Gold will be more integrated with the product and become an extension of pfSense in ways that don't exist today.  How are you contributing to the project?
