<SOLVED> Clean System to 2.3.2-RELEASE-p1 High MBUF Usage
« on: November 01, 2016, 05:53:59 am »
Hi there,

I have a new hardware system testing to add IDS features etc. to my network.

No specific configuration put in place yet but initial installation done with v2.2.6, upgraded to v2.3.1 RELEASE via Update tab, then immediately upgraded to latest version (2.3.2-RELEASE-p1) via the update tab.

Was about to begin system configuration, but then noticed the MBUF Usage to be very high - 75% usage.  This is with no configuration and the system not in use.

Compared this with my production pfsense boxes (they are virtualised though), and their usage are around 3-10%.

Is this a known issue with this release?

Is there an easy way to simply revert back to 2.3.1 RELEASE?

Thanks,

For anyone coming by this post later, it seems the MBUFS 'issue' is related to certain hardware setups.  I was initially surprised as the VM PF Servers I have don't have this high usage with the default settings.

Anyway, I found the following pfsense documentation which explains this and what related settings to check: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Tuning_and_Troubleshooting_Network_Cards

Cheers,
