Much problems with PPOE on pfsense 0.94.10 .12 .14
« on: November 27, 2005, 10:24:07 am »
Hi @ all

The last working version (for me) of pfsense with no problems is 0.90. I use this version with PPOE with the german provider arcor.

The last testet version is 0.94.14 and I have the following problems:
If I set up my WAN provider (username & pass) and I make a reboot of pfsense, than Iīve got this message:

*** Welcome to pfSense version 0.94.14 - pfSense ***

  LAN*                     ->   sis0    ->      192.168.123.254
  WAN*                     ->   sis3    ->      NONE(PPPoE)

 pfSense console setup
***********************
 0)  Logout (SSH only)
 1)  Assign Interfaces
 2)  Set LAN IP address
 3)  Reset webGUI password
 4)  Reset to factory defaults
 5)  Reboot system
 6)  Halt system
 7)  Ping host
 8)  Shell
 9)  PFtop
10)  Traffic Logs

Enter an option:

In the system log/system I can read this:

And now if I go to the webguided menue WAN and I only "save" without any changes than I got a real IP from my provider, like this:

*** Welcome to pfSense version 0.94.14 - pfSense ***

  LAN*                     ->   sis0    ->      192.168.123.254
  WAN*                     ->   sis3    ->      82.83.57.167(PPPoE)

 pfSense console setup
***********************
 0)  Logout (SSH only)
 1)  Assign Interfaces
 2)  Set LAN IP address
 3)  Reset webGUI password
 4)  Reset to factory defaults
 5)  Reboot system
 6)  Halt system
 7)  Ping host
 8)  Shell
 9)  PFtop
10)  Traffic Logs

Enter an option:

The next Problen with configuring the WAN is, if I sign the field   "Enable Dial-On-Demand mode" and I reboot the system, then I got this IP:

*** Welcome to pfSense version 0.94.14 - pfSense ***

  LAN*                     ->   sis0    ->      192.168.123.254
  WAN*                     ->   sis3    ->      192.0.2.112(PPPoE)

 pfSense console setup
***********************
 0)  Logout (SSH only)
 1)  Assign Interfaces
 2)  Set LAN IP address
 3)  Reset webGUI password
 4)  Reset to factory defaults
 5)  Reboot system
 6)  Halt system
 7)  Ping host
 8)  Shell
 9)  PFtop
10)  Traffic Logs

Enter an option:

This IP comming not from my provider, its an othe range - I think its my DSL-Modem.

The first version Iīve got this probs is 0.92

Sorry for my bad english

Best regards
Udo

Hi all!

I run into the same probs after upgrading to 0.92 with a Telekom-SDSL via PPPOE.

After only a reboot, WAN is disconnected. I've to save WAN-Settings in GUI without only doing any changes, then WAN is immediately online.

I tried to restore config from previously saved without success.

Maybe, due to the last changes in the built, settings have to be drawn back to default and then rebuilt by hand?

Nevertheless, its an outstanding project, done by the devs. I hope, they'll not "loose their nerves", confronted to a raising # of users - and their probs... ;-)

Ciao Wolf

I'll do some testing tomorrow (if I find some time) in the office at our backup adsl line (t-online) to find out what's going on.

I rewired my home network to test this and found quite a number of issues.

A new version is coming up soon.

I updated to 0.94.16, also 0.94.18 with your last commits, but PPPOE is only coming up after a reboot. If you ever hit 'disconnect' in GUI- interfaces, PPPOE is never connecting, when you try 'connect'.

From my point of view, there's no hint in system-log, regarding to mpd.

Mind posting the system logs or sending them to me?   Seems like we have the oppisite problem now...

If I want to reconnect I got no message in the system log.

When I boot the system with aktivated   "Dynamic DNS"   then I receive an IP from the provider, but itīs not possible to connect to the I-net.

Bye Udo

Really need to see the entire log.  There are many aspects besides mpd... rc.linkup, etc.

YES, itīs right. The log I sent to you after a normally reboot (without activated "Dynamic DNS")! At this time they are no problems. If I disconnect the WAN connection, you can see the log in Reply#7 - there is nothing more.

If I try to connect, in the Interface menue - nothing happend - no connection and NO entries in the system log.

Or do you mean a full log with activated "Dynamic DNS" ?

We fixed this dynamic dns many moons ago but it appears to be coming back.  Joy.

Please send the logs from dynamic dns enabled too.

Please try http://www.pfsense.com/~sullrich/pfSense-Full-Update-0.94.18.tgz

Found a nice pppoe blocking situation.

Also, please make sure that the dyndns updates okay.
